Visiting Dumfries House

Bookings open for 2009 season on Monday 1st December

We are in the process of setting our opening times, tours and prices for 2009 and that the booking line will re-open on Monday 1st December.

We will usually be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, but in our first season this will vary. Also download our welcome brochure as well ( You need Adobe Acrobat reader to view this file. )

There is no ‘free access’ available in Dumfries House. All visitors must take a guided tour. Tours last for one hour and set off every half an hour, starting from 10.00am. Last tour starts at 3.30pm. The maximum number of visitors per tour is limited to 18.

Tours are only available by ‘pre-booking’ through the booking line (01290 551111). Visitors arriving without a valid entry ticket will not be admitted.

Waiting space inside the House and at the car parks is limited. Please allow up to two hours in total for your visit.

Picnics are allowed in the grounds.

Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access available during 2008 season.

Dumfries House has some uneven floors and we request that visitors do not wear ‘stilletto’ type heels which may damage delicate carpets and wood flooring.

And finally....please bear in mind that we are only at the beginning of our journey and there is still a huge amount of work to do, so please expect to see a certain amount of ‘work-in-progress’.
